Not Just a Consultant. Your Programming Partner

  • Let’s Figure Out What’s Really Going On

Usually, an owner calls me because something just doesn’t feel right.

Maybe the ratings are slipping. Maybe the station sounds tired. Maybe the music, imaging or morning show is not connecting the way it should.

    That’s where experience matters.

I’ve spent decades programming and working with stations in formats ranging from CHR and AC to Classic Hits and News-Talk. Yes, I specialize in AC and Classic Hits, but I draw from all of that experience to quickly identify what is holding the station back and what will make the biggest difference.

Sometimes nothing is dramatically wrong. You simply want an experienced programming leader available to you and your Program Director when important decisions come up.

Most of my business comes from referrals. Take a look at my testimonials. And if you’d like, call any of them.

  • The Music Must Be Right. There Is No Room For Error

I’ll review your library, categories, clocks, rotations, scheduling rules and music software to make sure everything is working together the way it should.

If local music research is available, I’ll work with you and your provider on list construction, screeners, perceptual questions and proper interpretation of the results.

If research is not available, that’s okay, too. Using the many resources in my programming toolbox, along with decades of experience, I’ll help you build the right list for your format, market and audience.

The goal is simple: play the right songs, in the right balance, at the right time.

Daily music scheduling is also available for an additional fee.

  • Positioning & Imaging

In today’s competitive world, nothing is more important than owning a clear and simple position with your listeners.

Sometimes the station already has the right position, but it is not being communicated clearly enough. Other times, the message is there, but it is getting buried beneath less important elements.

I’ve worked with stations that were ready to walk away from a perfectly good position. After talking it through, we discovered the position was not the problem. The real issue was how it was being executed on the air.

Once the position is right, the imaging has to bring it to life.

From choosing the right voiceover talent to writing and creating imaging, production direction and jingles, I’ll work with you to make sure the station is communicating the right message clearly, consistently and effectively.

The goal is not to say more. It is to say the right thing in a way listeners will understand and remember.

  • Talent

There’s an old radio line: “It’s what’s between the music that counts.”

I work with morning shows and individual personalities to improve preparation, content, delivery and connection with the audience.

The coaching is honest and direct, but always constructive. The goal is not to make everyone sound the same. It is to help each personality become the best version of themselves.

Regular coaching calls with your talent are available, along with Zoom meetings for the entire staff.

And when you need to add or replace someone, I can help you evaluate the options and find the right fit.

  • Sometimes You Need More Than a Consultant

Some owners need more than occasional advice. They need an experienced programming leader who can become a true extension of the management team.

That is where my Fractional Program Director role comes in.

I can help oversee music, imaging, positioning, talent and day-to-day programming decisions while working closely with you, your General Manager and your local Program Director.

For some stations, I serve as the primary programming leader. For others, I work alongside the Program Director as a coach, sounding board and trusted second opinion.

My role can be as hands-on as you need it to be.

You get the experience and leadership of a proven Program Director without adding another full-time management position.

  • When You Hire Gary, You Get Gary

    Limited availability. Unlimited commitment.

I intentionally work with a small group of stations so I can give each one the time, attention and personal involvement it deserves.

No junior associates. No handoffs. No second stringers.

Radio is a 24-hour business, and it is not at all uncommon for me to take calls at night or on weekends. Don’t believe me? Call me on a Saturday. I’ll pick up.

Radio is a serious business, and you have a significant investment in your station. I never lose sight of that.

When we work together, your station becomes my station, too. My number-one priority will always be doing what is best for the station and helping your business succeed.

Let’s have a conversation. No pressure. Just tell me what is going on, and we’ll see if there is a fit.
